Why teams look for a Nagios alternative
The reasons are consistent, and none of them is that Nagios stopped working. The engine is as dependable as it ever was; what has changed is what teams now need around it. Nagios is dated and high-maintenance by design — its power lives in text configuration and a sprawling library of community plugins, which means anything beyond a basic host-and-service check becomes a plugin to find, install, configure and then keep working through every upgrade. Nagios XI is sold as a perpetual licence by node count, with a first year of maintenance and support included and an annual renewal required after that. Migrating from Nagios
The good news is that you do not have to switch off Nagios to try the alternative, and we would not advise it. A sensible migration overlaps the two and cuts over only once you are satisfied.
